Microsoft Offers Voluntary Exit Packages to About 60,000 Employees

Source: The Verge / company memo

Microsoft announced a Voluntary Exit Offer for employees at internal job level 70 and below in participating organizations across the US, Canada, India and the UK — about 60,000 people, or roughly a quarter of its workforce.

Staff have until early December to decide, with accepted exits landing on December 31. Coverage reportedly includes parts of AI experiences, Copilot, Windows, Xbox, finance and HR, while some commercial and security units are excluded or only partially included.

Microsoft frames the program as voluntary and time-limited. Analysts still read the timing as linked to AI infrastructure costs and ongoing org reshaping after years of smaller cuts.
